Colias hyale Linnaeus, 1758 ♂
Common names: Pale Clouded Yellow [En], Soufré [Fr], Gele luzernevlinder [Nl], Goldene Acht, Gemeine Heufalter [De], Orman Azameti [Tu]

Puivert, AUDE ● France

Description: Male is light yellow with dark grey or black drawing, 21-25mm. Female is white with a yellow-green touch. It is notoriously difficult to separate this species from Berger's Clouded Yellow (Colias alfacariensis).

Biology : Flight period: April-September in two to three generations. Pupae hibernate. Sometimes migrations can be observed. Host plants are various Fabaceae: Vicia, Coronilla, Medicago, Lotus, Cytisus, Trifolium, etc.

Habitat: Meadows and forest edges up to 2,700 m a.s.l. in the forest and forest-steppe zones.

Distribution: Temperate Europe and Siberia to Transbaikalia, central Yakutia, Mongolia and NW. China. Absent from Italy, Greece and Western Balkans.
