Description: Bug of 6-8 mm. The ground colour (inlcuding the scutellum) ranges from red-orange to almost fully black, although the cuneus is always red to some extent.
The nymph is black coloured with pinkish back.
The forewings are very shiny. The tibiae are unbanded and the 1st antennal segment and at least the base of the 2nd are black.
Biology: This bug feeds on small insects, especially aphids. The adults can be seen from July to September.
Habitat: A range of plants, especially nettles.
Distribution: Anywhere in Europe, except in Azores, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Malta and parts of Russia.
