Common names: Heldreich’s Orchid [En], Ophrys de Von Heldreich [Fr], Heldreich-Ragwurz [De]

Endemic species

Sarakiniko, MILOS ● Greece

Description: The petals are often contiguous at the base, the lip is long (13-18 mm) amphoroid and very globose at its centre and the lateral lobes are short (3-8 mm).
The speculum is blue to purplish red, shiny, with one central eyespot and two lateral eyespots, sometimes fragmented. The appendix is large, with 3-9 teeth.

Biology: Flowering on March-April.

Habitat: Phrygana, maquis, alkaline and sunlit soils.

Distribution: Aegean Islands, maybe endemic on Crete and Karpathos.
