Description: The Pink butterfly orchid is a bold and relatively large-flowered orchid, of 15-40cm height, often growing in large scattered colonies.
Flowers are white or pale violet pink, the lip purplish-violet with darker pink or red dots or streaks, occasionally almost white with pale markings, borne in lax oblong spikes; sepals and petals forming a small pointed helmet, the lateral sepals often with greenish parallel veins; lip 10-16mm long, kidney-shaped to heart-shaped or almost rounded, unlobed or obscurely 3-lobed, with a finely toothed margin; spur slightly downcurved, 8-12mm long, conical, shorter than the ovary.

Habitat: dry grassy and stony habitats, scrub, maquis, garrigue, lowland and in the lower mountains. Flowering: February-May.

Distribution: Mediterranean to Iran.
